A tiny and stunning blue-eye rainbowfish from mangrove swamps and saline creeks in northern Australia. Known for its metallic blue back and bright yellow fins, this brackish-tolerant species is perfect for specialized nano setups.

 

Key Features

  • Maximum Size: 3.5 cm / ~1.4 inches TL.
  • Appearance: Elongated body with a bright blue back, silvery sides, and distinctive black elongated rays in the second dorsal fin.
  • Fin Details: Dorsal spines 3–5, dorsal soft rays 4–7; anal spines 1, anal soft rays 9–13.

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10–20 gallons for a small school (nano suitable).
  • Water Parameters: Brackish to freshwater; 72–88°F (22–31°C), pH 7.0–8.0. Tolerates a wide range of salinity.
  • Diet: Omnivorous — requires small foods such as micro-pellets, infusoria, and fine frozen foods.
  • Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish. Excellent for densely planted nano aquariums or brackish setups.
