A robust and peaceful armored catfish from the Pantanal wetlands of Bolivia and surrounding regions in South America. Known in the hobby by its C-number (C005), this larger member of the Corydoras group stands out with its solid build and sociable nature, making it an excellent choice for bigger community tanks or biotope setups.

Key Features

• Maximum Size: 6.9 cm / ~2.7 inches SL.
• Appearance: Sturdy, armored body typical of the Brochis group. Females grow noticeably larger and more full-bodied than males; mature males develop more pointed fin tips. Coloration is generally subdued with typical Corydoras-style patterning that blends well with sandy or leaf-strewn substrates.
• Fin Details: Typical for the genus, with rounded to slightly pointed fins depending on sex and age.

Aquarium Care

• Tank Size: Minimum 30–40 gallons for a small group (larger is better for their active foraging).
• Water Parameters: Tropical freshwater; 72–82°F (22–28°C), pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Excellent water quality and a soft sand substrate are essential to protect sensitive barbels.
• Diet: Omnivorous bottom feeder — readily accepts sinking tablets, granules, and a variety of live or frozen foods (bloodworms, white worms, daphnia, Tubifex).
• Behavior: Peaceful, sociable shoaling fish that does best in groups. Excellent community tank inhabitant that helps keep the substrate clean. Provide driftwood, plants, and open foraging areas with some shaded spots.
