Fieryblack Shiner (Cyprinella pyrrhomelas)

A colorful North American native shiner from the Peedee and Santee River drainages in North and South Carolina, USA. Known for its striking red snout and vibrant breeding colors.

  • Appearance: Silvery body with a red snout and narrow black stripe along the back. Breeding males display bright red snouts, blue backs, and colorful fins.
  • Fin Details: Typical for Cyprinella shiners.

  • Water Parameters: Subtropical freshwater; 68–82°F (20–28°C), pH 7.0–8.0, moderate hardness.
