A small and lively blue-eye rainbowfish from the rainforest streams of eastern Papua New Guinea. Known for its bright blue eyes and vibrant yellow fins that give it a distinctive forktail appearance.
Key Features
- Maximum Size: 5.0 cm / ~2 inches SL.
- Appearance: Silvery body with shimmering bright blue eyes and bright yellow fins. Males have brighter colors and curved, wing-like pectoral fins.
- Fin Details: Dorsal spines 4–7, dorsal soft rays 7–9; anal spines 1, anal soft rays 15–18.
Aquarium Care
- Tank Size: Minimum 20–30 gallons for a small school (6 or more recommended for best coloration and natural behavior). Ideal for nano or planted aquariums.
- Water Parameters: Tropical freshwater; 75–82°F (24–28°C), pH 6.0–8.0, soft to moderate hardness.
- Diet: Omnivorous — accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, frozen, and live foods.
- Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish. Excellent for planted community tanks with gentle flow and cover.
