Iwur Rainbowfish

Iwur Rainbowfish ( Melanotaenia sp. "Iwur" )

An undescribed rainbowfish from the Iwur region of West Papua, Indonesia. It was collected in 2017 from the south side of Papua and has only recently entered the aquarium hobby.

• Maximum Size: Reaches approximately 6–7 cm (2.4–2.8 inches) total length.
• Appearance: Body with a powdery blue tone. Males develop bright orange-red fins and more intense overall coloration. Females are more subdued in color.

Aquarium Care

• Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for a school.
• Water Parameters: 75–82°F (24–28°C), pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderate hardness.
• Diet: Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, frozen foods, and live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia.
• Behavior: Peaceful schooling fish that occupies the mid-to-upper water column. Best kept in groups.
