Kali Kaibur Rainbowfish ( Melanotaenia sp. "Kali Kaibur" )
An undescribed rainbowfish from the Kali Kaibur stream in the Bird’s Head Peninsula of West Papua, Indonesia. It is one of the more recently introduced forms in the aquarium hobby from the Kali stream complex.
- Maximum Size: Reaches approximately 6–8 cm (2.4–3.1 inches) total length.
- Appearance: Males display attractive iridescent coloration typical of the small West Papuan Melanotaenia forms, with patterning that intensifies during displays.
Aquarium Care
- Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for a school.
- Water Parameters: 75–80°F (24–27°C), pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderate hardness.
- Diet: Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, frozen foods, and live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia.
- Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish. Best kept in groups.
IUCN Status: Not formally assessed (undescribed species).
