Pacific Blue-Eye (Pseudomugil signifer)

A small and hardy blue-eye rainbowfish from coastal streams, estuaries, and mangrove areas of eastern Australia. Known for its bright blue eyes and adaptability to both freshwater and brackish conditions.

 

Key Features

  • Maximum Size: 7.0 cm / ~2.8 inches SL (typically 3–4 cm in aquariums).
  • Appearance: Silvery or pale olive body with bright blue eyes. Males have extended fin filaments and may show orange fins during breeding season.
  • Fin Details: Two dorsal fins.

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons for a small school (6 or more recommended).
  • Water Parameters: 68–86°F (20–30°C), pH 6.5–8.0, variable hardness. Tolerates brackish water.
  • Diet: Omnivorous — accepts small foods, flakes, frozen, and live foods.
  • Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish. Excellent for planted aquariums with gentle flow.
