Paska's Blue-Eye (Pseudomugil paskai)
Also known as Paska's Rainbowfish
A tiny and colorful blue-eye rainbowfish from small creeks near Kiunga in the upper Fly River system, Papua New Guinea. Named after John Paska, a fisheries technician for the Papua New Guinea Ministry of Fisheries who co-collected the type specimen.
Key Features
- Maximum Size: 3.0 cm / ~1.2 inches SL.
- Appearance: Silvery-iridescent body with bright blue eyes and vibrant fin colors. Males are more colorful.
- Fin Details: Dorsal spines 3–5, dorsal soft rays 6–7; anal spines 1, anal soft rays 9–11.
Aquarium Care
- Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small school (nano suitable).
- Water Parameters: Tropical freshwater; 75–82°F (24–28°C), pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderate hardness.
- Diet: Omnivorous — requires very small foods.
- Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish. Excellent for densely planted nano aquariums.
