Red Neon Blue-Eye (Pseudomugil luminatus)

A tiny and brilliantly colored blue-eye rainbowfish from Papua Province, Indonesia. Known for its neon blue stripe and vivid reddish colors in males, this species is one of the most striking small rainbowfishes.

Key Features

  • Maximum Size: 1.9 cm / ~0.75 inches SL.
  • Appearance: Yellowish to reddish body in males with a prominent neon blue stripe along the upper body. Fins with black spots and white/yellow markings on the edges.
  • Fin Details: Dorsal spines 3–5, dorsal soft rays 5–7; anal spines 1, anal soft rays 8–10.

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small school (perfect for nano setups).
  • Water Parameters: Tropical freshwater; 75–82°F (24–28°C), pH 6.5–7.5, moderate hardness.
  • Diet: Omnivorous — very small foods required.
  • Behavior: Peaceful, active schooling fish ideal for densely planted nano tanks.
